Jordan - Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum

We had been waiting for a bus at bus station in Petra since 5.30 a.m. The bus should have departured from the station at  6.00 a.m. There was no bus at 6.30 a.m but we were lucky. A taxi-driver had transport order from Wadi Rum to Petra and no passenger to Wadi Rum. He was looking for passengers at the bus station in Petra. The final prices was 10 JD. The taxi driver was retired military man. He was 36 and retired. Military pensions are the highest in Jordan. The teachers, doctors can only dream about such pension. By the way it is the same in Poland. The driver recommended us a local guide in Wadi Rum.  We bought 1 day/1 night 4WD car package tour. It cost 65 JD per person. Several attractions, food, accommodation were included in the price. The offer and price is a standard in Wadi Rum. The quality of accommodation (tent with bathroom and big bed), food, and program is very good. It is organised very well. There is a folk show in the evening. It is included in the price. You need pay extra for shisha or beer.

Wadi Rum is fantastic. It is very colorful. The colors of the desert are white, pink, red. Rock formations are amazing. The most awesome rock formations are included in the excursion program.
Don't forget to watch beautiful sky, full of stars, in the night.

We said good bye to the Wadi Rum in the morning. There is no public transport. Rented car, taxi, or hitchhiking are the only option to leave the Wadi Rum.

  • Car - this is the best option for 2-4 people. Rent the car in Amman or at airport
  • Taxi. You can take a taxi to get to the junction and then get in public bus at the main road. The taxi is expensive.
  • Hitchhiking - the cheapest one but you need to have time and be patient. It was our option. We were very lucky again. A Luxembourg girl stopped and gave us a lift to Ma'an. We took a bus to Amman and then a taxi to our final destination - Madaba. It took us all day to get to Madaba from Wadi Rum. If we had a car it would be 3 hours.
