Jordan - Amman

Amman Pasha Hotel was our accommodation in Amman. We booked the double room with bathroom and breakfast by a few weeks before arrival. It cost 35 JD per night.  The advantage of the hotel is a free city tour organized daily at 11 a.m. A guide is a hotel employee who was born and brought up in Amman. Before the city tour he made very interesting introduction about history and present-day of the capitol city. He mentioned that huge number of refugees live in the city. We went up to the roof of the hotel and had panoramic view on the city. The guide showed us the most important sites of Amman.

We visited the oldest bazaar (suk) in Amman. The guide spoke about history and organisation issues of the bazaar.  We visited Christian sector. Brains, bellies, livers etc. of lamb were sold in one shop.

The tour is free, but the tips are welcomed. Our tip was 2 JD. I recommend the tour.

Almost all tourist attractions are located at downtown. You can visit them on foot. Masjid King Abdullah (Blue Mosque)
is one of a few exception. It was built in XX century. It is very nice but not awesome. The mosque is located very closed to Jett bus company office. You can visit the mosque and buy bus ticket to, for example, Petra. The mosque entrance fee is not included in Jordan Pass. It cost 2 JD.

Recommended sites in Amman:

  • Roman Theater.
  • Citadel, located on a hill with panoramic views of the city. There are stairs from Roman Theater to citadel. You don't need to go around or take a taxi.
  • Suk - bazaar
  • Archaeological Museum, not included in Jordan Pass. Optionally.

Hashem Restaurant is famous of delicious falafel. It is full of local people and tourists.

I recommend offline maps android application -
This is bookmarks for Amman map: amman_bookmarks . Upload it to your smartphone.
